The institution with over a century of tradition began its journey in 1912 as an ambitious project of local intellectuals, united in the Debelt Archaeological Society. Initially led by the visionary Pavel Vodenicharov, the museum gradually transformed from a private collection into an authoritative scientific complex.

A key moment in its evolution occurred in 1946, when under the leadership of archaeologist Dr. Ivan Galabov, the institution acquired the status of a "People's Museum". This period marks the beginning of systematic development of the modern museum concept in the region, laying solid foundations for future development.

The administrative transformation continued in 1953, when the museum received regional status. A decisive stage came in 2000, when by government decree it was officially established as a regional museum, taking responsibility for the entire cultural and historical heritage of Burgas region.

The museum's structure encompasses four specialized exhibitions, each located in a separate historic building in the city center. The Archaeological Museum presents unique finds from Black Sea cities, including the earliest statue discovered on Bulgarian soil. The Ethnographic collection, positioned in the authentic Brakolovi house from 1873, recreates the life and traditions from the late 19th and first half of the 20th century.

The Natural Science exhibition offers an in-depth look at the geology, fauna, and flora of Strandzha and Burgas wetlands. Through innovative educational programs, the museum actively engages the younger generation, organizing summer student clubs and specialized initiatives.

Currently, the institution has an impressive fund of over 100,000 artifacts, covering archaeological, ethnographic, and natural collections. Research activities include large-scale studies of medieval sites such as Rusokastro, ancient thermal baths, and St. Ivan Island.

The museum successfully combines scientific precision with tourist attractiveness, becoming a significant cultural center. Its mission goes beyond simply preserving exhibits – it actively promotes regional heritage, provokes interest in local history, and supports the educational process.
