The modernized ethnographic collection in the heart of Burgas opened its doors after a large-scale reconstruction, financed by a European operational program. Located in an architectural monument from 1873, the museum exhibition offers an innovative view of the richness of regional culture.
The two-story building on 69 Slavyanska Street has been transformed into a multifunctional space that tells the story of local communities. The first floor presents urban life from the 19th century, exhibiting authentic fabrics, women's fashion, and ritual objects, while the second floor is dedicated to ethnographic groups and their unique traditions.
A special highlight of the exhibition is the jewelry collections – arranged according to the way they were worn, they include various silver belt buckles, rings, bracelets, and necklaces. Visitors can immerse themselves in the richness of different ethnographic communities – Rupsi, Tronki, Zagorsi, Mountaineers, Karakachans, and refugees.
The museum space offers a rich interactive program, including demonstrations of traditional rituals such as Lazaruvane, Enyova Bulya, nestinarstvo, and kukeri. The new restoration workshops and open stage expand the possibilities for cultural events and educational initiatives.
An additional attraction is the ethno-kitchen, which offers authentic regional dishes, including the traditional fish soup. The courtyard now has a stage that hosts events such as "Museum Night" and costume fashion shows.
As part of the Regional Historical Museum, the new exhibition aims not only to preserve but also to actively promote cultural heritage. It transforms the museum into a dynamic center that connects the past with the present through innovative educational and interactive approaches.
The ethnographic exhibition establishes itself as a modern space that turns traditions into a living and accessible experience for all age groups, preserving the authenticity of the Burgas region.
