Zhelyazkov Announces Measures to Improve Elderly Care and congratulated on the holiday

We are working on a higher supplement to the pension of a deceased spouse - from 30% to 35%, announced Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov in a statement on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons. In an address, which was published on the Council of Ministers' page on the social network, the Prime Minister highlighted important points about the measures taken and future plans for the care of older people.

The Prime Minister recalled that all pensions had been increased by 8.6%, emphasizing the government's commitment to improving the financial situation of pensioners. He also emphasized decisive actions against illegal homes for older people, pointing out that investments are being made in modern care for them. The creation of 254 new social and health-social services is planned, and the renovation of all state-funded homes for older people should be completed within one year, with the conditions being completely renewed.

Zhelyazkov added that today we pay tribute to the people who have contributed to the development of Bulgaria "as we know it". In view of the holiday, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of providing decent incomes, quality care and deserved respect for older people. According to him, it is the duty of everyone to pass on this example to the next generations, guaranteeing a strong connection between youth and experience. "It is precisely continuity that is the strength that moves a nation forward," Zhelyazkov concluded.

Minister of Labour and Social Policy Borislav Gutsanov is expected to mark the Day of Older Persons later today together with the residents of the "Nadezhda" Home for the Elderly in the capital, where 75 people are currently accommodated. The atmosphere in front of the home is charged with anticipation of the upcoming event. Those present seem filled with hope for a better future and gratitude for the government's efforts.
