Earthquakes on October 27th in Bulgaria - Activity, Epicenters and Preventive Recommendations

On October 27, 2025, the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences recorded up to six minor earthquakes with a magnitude between 1.4 and 3.7 on the Richter scale. The main epicenters were located in Southwestern Bulgaria - around the city of Blagoevgrad, the village of Breznitsa, the areas of Gotse Delchev and at a distance of 90 to 110 km from Sofia and about 190 km from Burgas. The strongest was with a magnitude of 2.9 and a depth of about 2 kilometers. The second registered point was 109 km south of Sofia and 91 km southwest of Plovdiv, also with a magnitude of nearly 3 points.

The earthquakes did not cause destruction, casualties or the shutdown of key infrastructure facilities. Residents of the affected areas felt a brief hum of the soil and slight vibrations, but there were no reports of damage to buildings or other serious consequences. Experts confirm that the situation is under control and the local authorities do not report emergency cases or the need for evacuation.

Seismologists explained that frequent activity is typical for the Balkan seismic belt, especially during the autumn season, taking into account the influence of increased humidity and temperature changes. A new, stronger earthquake is not expected, but residents and tourists are recommended to follow local warnings, be informed of possible short-term communication interruptions, and follow the instructions of the authorities in the event of new activity.

The meteorological services maintain an orange code for danger due to unstable weather, and seismologists remind that preventive preparedness is key in any seismic activity.
