In response to a series of climate challenges threatening agricultural crops, the state agency is taking decisive actions to support affected farmers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food has developed a targeted strategy for rapid response to natural disaster damages.
Official data reveal an extremely difficult situation in the sector, especially regarding fruit plantations. In the Kyustendil region alone, nearly 600 agricultural producers are affected, with damages covering around 12,000 decares of cherry orchards.
Deputy Minister Ivan Kapitanov presented the details of the emergency support program during the traditional Cherry Festival. According to the developed mechanism, farmers can receive compensations up to 80% of the actual cultivation expenses for the affected crops.
Experts from the interdepartmental working group will process incoming assessment protocols weekly, which guarantees the fastest possible damage recovery. The priority is to first support producers of cherries, sour cherries, and apricots.
The support mechanism includes a precise damage assessment through current technological cards. A key condition is for farmers to prove care and maintenance of plantations according to established standards.
The Ministry recognizes not only the economic but also the social significance of fruit production. The goal is to preserve traditional agricultural practices and support local communities during critical moments.
During the event, the Mayor of Kyustendil Municipality, Eng. Ognyan Atanasov, also supported the initiative, emphasizing the importance of quick and adequate state intervention in such force majeure circumstances.
Kapitanov urged producers to continue providing maximum care for their plantations, regardless of the challenges, while guaranteeing full state support during this difficult period.
