Attention! Repairs on Hemus and Thracian Motorways during the Weekend

Over the upcoming weekend, as well as in the following days, drivers should be particularly careful during their travels. "Road Police" warns of changes in traffic organization on key sections of the highways, where repair works are being carried out. Intense traffic, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, will necessitate the adaptation of traffic to ensure the safety of all road users.

On the "Hemus" highway, preventive maintenance is being carried out in the lane towards Sofia. The work is being carried out on a 7-kilometer section between the 23rd and 30th kilometer. The repair started on October 21st and is expected to be completed by November 15th, of course, under favorable weather conditions. During the weekends, when traffic traditionally increases, reversible traffic will be introduced. On Friday and Saturday, two lanes will be provided for those traveling to Varna and one for those heading to the capital. On Sunday and Monday, however, the scheme will change: two lanes will be open in the direction of Sofia and only one for Varna.

A reporter on the spot reports that the situation at the repair site is tense. Drivers are moving with increased caution, and "Road Police" officers are closely monitoring compliance with the rules. The continuous noise from construction equipment can be heard, as well as warning signals that direct traffic.

To ensure safety and facilitate passage, "Road Police" may take other measures. If columns form in one direction, it is possible that traffic in a certain direction will be restricted for a short period of time to speed up the passage of vehicles. For heavy trucks over 12 tons, diversion is planned along an alternative route from the "Botevgrad" road junction along road II-17 and road I-1 Sofia – Botevgrad, returning to the highway at the "Vitinska Reka" road junction.

On the "Trakia" highway, traffic is expected to be opened today in the repaired lane to Burgas in the Stara Zagora region. The renovated route with a length of 10 kilometers, between the 208th and 218th kilometer, should be opened around 6 pm, after the removal of the temporary traffic organization. At the moment, the atmosphere at the site is dynamic, workers are finalizing the last details, and the cars are preparing to pass through the renovated section.

The repair continues in the lane to Burgas in the Sliven region, on a section with a length of 11 kilometers, from the 262nd to the 273rd kilometer. Traffic there is carried out in both directions in the lane to Sofia, with one lane allocated for each direction. Work is intensive at the site. Geogrid is being laid on certain sections, concrete curbs are being installed on others, a base asphalt layer is being laid and other necessary elements. The repair is expected to be completed by the end of November.

The "Road Infrastructure Agency" expresses its apologies for the inconvenience, emphasizing that these repair works are critical for the safety and comfort of travelers. Drivers are urged to strictly adhere to traffic rules, including speed limits, to maintain distance and to avoid risky overtaking. During peak hours, when traffic is heavy, columns may form, which will slow down movement. Therefore, it is recommended that drivers plan more travel time and carefully follow road signs and temporary traffic organization.
