At an economic forum in Sofia, Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev emphasized that trust is of key importance for the economic development of Bulgaria. He stated that January 1, 2026 will be an important date for the country, as the adoption of the euro is expected at that time, which will be a new driver for growth, similar to joining the European Union.
However, according to Donchev, the adoption of the euro alone is not enough. He drew attention to the fact that the most important factor for competitiveness is the quality of human capital and the qualification of the workforce. The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that more attention should be paid to the Bulgarian industry, which, according to him, is "invisible to society".
Donchev warned that modern political technologies allow "entire social groups to be made to hallucinate", giving examples of fake news about the export of children to Norway and chipping through vaccines. He stated that such speculations will disappear with the adoption of the euro.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in addition to good news, there are also many tasks ahead for the country, which require both society and institutions to be "up to the needs and expectations".
Later in the forum, Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth Martin Danovski also participated, emphasizing that Bulgaria's economic vision must correspond to knowledge, adaptability and speed of reaction. He also pointed out that the state should not be the only center for financing, and that we live in an "economy of networks and cooperation".
The event brought together successful companies, leading economists, financial experts and representatives of Bulgarian, European and international institutions.
