According to the agreements from Istanbul, the Coordination Headquarters on issues of the treatment of prisoners of war in Ukraine continues the process of exchanging injured and sick servicemen with Russia. Soldiers and sergeants from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Navy, the Ground Forces, the Territorial Defense, the Airborne Assault Troops, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Border Service, and the National Guard have returned to their homeland.
Among the released there are defenders of Mariupol, captured in 2022. All of them have severe wounds and serious medical diagnoses such as epilepsy, hypertension, ischemic heart disease, vision problems, musculoskeletal disorders, hernias, and chronic digestive system diseases. Many of them have also been diagnosed with weight loss.
The returned Defenders will be placed in medical centers for the necessary examinations, treatment, and rehabilitation. They will also receive any other necessary assistance, including restoration of documents and payment of their due monetary remuneration for the time spent in captivity.
The process of exchanging prisoners of war in accordance with the Istanbul agreements continues. The exact number of released persons will be announced after the completion of all stages. The Coordination Headquarters states that it is working to return all Defenders of Ukraine.
