The Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs, Igor Klymenko, expresses serious concerns about the way Russia is returning the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers. He points out that the bodies often arrive in a highly disfigured and decomposed state, making identification difficult, and in some cases, even the bodies of Ukrainian and Russian servicemen have been mixed together.

The Ukrainian side insists that the international community pay attention to these actions of Russia and increase the pressure to comply with the basic principles of the Geneva Conventions. Interior Minister Igor Klimenko emphasizes that in a number of cases, the bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers are fragmented to such an extent that multiple DNA tests are required to establish identity. He adds that in 2022, at least 20 cases have been documented in which the remains of Ukrainian soldiers were mixed with the bodies of Russian servicemen - a violation of international humanitarian law. The Ukrainian authorities insist that the international community pay attention to these actions and increase the pressure on Moscow to comply with the basic principles of the Geneva Conventions.
