The low-cost airline opens a base in Bratislava and launches new routes to Plovdiv and Varna, strengthening connections between Bulgaria and Slovakia.

The low-cost airline "Wizz Air" announced a significant expansion of its operations in Central Europe with the opening of a new base in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. At the same time, the company is launching two new direct routes to Bulgaria - from Bratislava to Plovdiv and Varna, which will strengthen the connections between the two countries and stimulate tourism and business opportunities.

According to an official statement from "Wizz Air's" press center, regular flights on the new routes will begin on November 15 this year. They will operate year-round three times a week - on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, providing convenient travel opportunities for both tourists and business travelers.

Anastasia Novak, "Corporate Sustainability and Communications" Manager at "Wizz Air", commented on the significance of the new routes, saying: "With these two new routes, Bulgaria will position itself even more tangibly on the map of Central Europe". She emphasized the strategic importance of Bratislava as a capital located between three countries, and added: "Plovdiv and Varna will be just a few hours away from Bratislava, serving as an invitation for more tourists, more cultural exchange, and new business opportunities".

"Wizz Air's" decision to open a new base in Bratislava and launch new routes to Bulgaria is part of the company's broader strategy to expand its presence in Central and Eastern Europe. This development comes at a time when the aviation industry is recovering from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and looking for new growth opportunities.

The new routes will connect two of Bulgaria's most important cultural and economic centers - Plovdiv, known for its rich historical heritage and status as European Capital of Culture for 2019, and Varna, the country's largest seaside resort - with the dynamic capital of Slovakia.

This expansion is expected to bring significant benefits to both the tourism sector and business communities in both countries. It will facilitate cultural exchange and create new opportunities for cooperation between Bulgaria and Slovakia in various fields.

Aviation sector analysts view this move by "Wizz Air" as strategically important, especially in the context of growing competition among low-cost carriers in Europe. The company continues to expand its network, offering more direct connections between smaller cities and regions that have traditionally not been well-served by major airlines.
