Three Countries Unite Efforts for Rail Transport: Sofia - Thessaloniki by 2027

For the first time, our three countries – Bulgaria, Greece, and Romania – are engaging so seriously in a common European project, stated the alternate Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Greece, Konstantinos Kιranakis, to journalists.

“Our goal is very simple – to connect the citizens of the three countries through high-quality passenger transport and simultaneously increase the economy, trade, and defense capabilities through this vertical corridor of strategic importance,” Kιranakis pointed out.

He thanked the European Commission, and in particular the European Commissioner for Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, as well as the corridor coordinator, Mario Mauro, for the European coordination and financing of the strategic project.

“We plan to provide high-quality passenger rail transport between Thessaloniki and Sofia by 2027. This means that all preparations, organization, and necessary steps are already underway,” Kιranakis added.

He expressed confidence that the project will provide modern and effective transport connectivity between the countries, while also contributing to economic development and strengthening the defense capabilities of the region.
