Repairs at Sofia's district heating company, Toplofikatsia Sofia, should finish by mid-November, Sofia mayor Vasil Terziev has said. He told reporters about the heating, which often stops because of breakdowns and planned repairs.

Terziev said that for years too little was done to replace pipes and fix faults on time. "Catching up now costs all of us a lot," the mayor said.

He hopes people in Sofia will have a calmer heating season once the repairs are done, despite the problems of recent months. "Better now than when temperatures are below zero," Terziev said.

Parts of the Iztok, Yavorov, Mladost 1, Dianabad, Izgrev, Slatina, Lozenets, Studentski Grad and Musagenitsa districts, and the centre of Sofia, have no heating today, according to a check by the BTA news agency on the Toplofikatsia website.

On the last day of the capital's autumn clean-up, Terziev helped clean the banks of the lakes in South Park and the paths leading to them.
