Many customers of UK digital bank Revolut in Bulgaria and across Europe cannot open its app, and others cannot make basic banking transactions. The company reported problems with several services. The likely cause is a network fault at Google Cloud, in its data centre in London.
People cannot log in to the mobile app, and card payments and transactions are declined. Money transfers fail, and balances and transaction histories load with errors. Users have posted a wave of complaints on social media.
Google Cloud reported serious network problems in several services at its European data centre in London, known as region europe-west2. "Several Google Cloud services are reporting increased error rates and intermittent network disruptions in the europe-west2 region," the company said on its official service status page.
An anonymous source familiar with the situation said Revolut's problems are linked to this outage.
Revolut thanked customers for their patience and apologised for the inconvenience. Its engineers are working to restore all services as fast as possible, the bank said. It gave no time frame.
