Slovak political leader Robert Fico presented a categorical position regarding his communication with Ukrainian leadership, unambiguously rejecting the possibility of a direct meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
On the TV show STVR, Fico expressed his view that personal relationships with the Ukrainian head of state are practically impossible. "My meeting with Zelensky makes no sense, because he perceives me extremely negatively," emphasized the Slovak prime minister.
Despite his personal reservations, the politician demonstrated a constructive position on Ukraine's European integration. He categorically stated that Ukrainian state membership in the European Union would generate more positives than potential challenges for Slovakia.
Fico emphasized that he prefers official communications to be conducted with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, rather than with President Zelensky. "I see no logical reason for a direct meeting with the President of Ukraine," the political leader firmly stated.
His position demonstrates the complex diplomatic configuration between the two countries, while simultaneously showing readiness for constructive dialogue at the institutional level.
