A Russian strike on a civilian cargo ship flying Liberia's flag has killed one sailor and wounded three crew members. The strike hit a port in Ukraine's Odesa region, Ukraine's maritime port authority said on Saturday, October 3.

The man killed worked as a motorman on the ship. All 13 crew members were taken to safety.

The port authority called it yet another Russian attack on civilian shipping. It said Russian forces keep hitting merchant ships and the sailors who keep Ukraine's sea routes open. The authority sent condolences to the dead sailor's family and wished the wounded a fast recovery.

Ukrainian intelligence says Vladimir Putin told Russia's military in September to drop earlier limits on air strikes.
