Russia hit Ukraine with missiles and attack drones overnight into 19 October. A 21-year-old woman died in Kyiv, and people were injured in Kyiv, Irpin and Dnipro. The Ukrainian Air Force said that by 9am air defences had shot down or jammed 247 targets, but missiles and drones still hit 25 places. Russia has been waging a full-scale war on Ukraine since February 2022.

Three people are also missing in Irpin, and in Dnipro rescuers are checking whether anyone is trapped under collapsed houses.

Kyiv

The woman killed in the capital was 21, mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Three people are in city hospitals. The attack used ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones.

An above-ground metro station on the left bank was damaged. Falling debris broke the rails and the contact rail next to it. City officials said trains on the red line are running on schedule this morning between Akademmistechko and Darnytsia. The above-ground stations Chernihivska and Lisova are closed to passengers for now, and crews are repairing the rails and cables.

In the Solomianskyi district, debris hit the first floor of a 25-storey residential block and injured three people. Doctors gave them help at the scene. At another address a projectile hit a non-residential building, and in the Dniprovskyi district non-residential buildings were hit.

Irpin and Kyiv region

Six people were injured in Irpin, three of them children. Three others are missing, and the search goes on, regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said.

In the Bucha district, 11 private houses, 6 cars, a production building, a warehouse and an educational institution were damaged. Windows were broken in apartment blocks. In the Vyshhorod district, a private house, 5 cars and one infrastructure site were affected.

Dnipro

A Russian strike early in the morning damaged private houses in Dnipro. Early information suggests people may be trapped there. An 84-year-old woman was injured and taken to hospital, and all emergency services are at the scene.

Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the Dnipropetrovsk regional administration, gave details of the attack.

Sumy region

Since the summer, Russian forces have dropped about 400 guided aerial bombs a month on the Sumy region. The peak was 503 bombs in June, followed by 390 in July, 414 in August and 398 in September. In the first half of October they dropped 180.

The figures come from the 8th Corps of the Air Assault Forces, which cites Air Command East. Russian troops have not reached the city of Sumy this year, although their command claims a "relentless advance".

What was fired and shot down

Russia used Iskander-M and S-400 ballistic missiles fired from the Smolensk, Bryansk and Kursk regions, and Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from the airspace of the Kursk region. It sent 269 Shahed attack drones, 59 of them jet-powered, as well as Banderol and Gerbera drones and Parodiya decoys.

Air defences shot down 4 cruise missiles and 243 drones. Besides the 25 hits, debris from downed targets fell in 8 places. The attack was still going on by morning, with several enemy drones in the sky.
