Russia attacks Ukraine with nearly 600 drones: five killed in Kropyvnytskyi and Dnipropetrovsk region, people hurt in Kyiv

Russia hit Ukraine overnight on 15 October with two X-59 guided air missiles and 580 attack drones, the Ukrainian Air Force said. By 8:00 am, air defences had shot down or jammed 536 of the drones. Preliminary data show hits at 31 locations, and debris fell at 11 more.

Ukrainian officials say at least five people died in the Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk regions, and 14 were wounded in those two regions and in Kyiv. Russia has been waging a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022.

Kirovohrad region

The region took its biggest attack since the full-scale war began: almost 360 Russian drones, regional governor Andriy Raikovych said. Three residents of Kropyvnytskyi died, and six were wounded and given medical help.

There were hits at 26 locations. Russian forces struck critical infrastructure, transport firms, logistics sites and homes. Kropyvnytskyi suffered the most damage. Znamianka, Oleksandriia, Pomichna and several communities in the region were also hit.

Rescuers, energy workers, medics, utility crews and police are working at the sites. Special commissions will inspect the damage and count the losses so victims can receive aid, Raikovych added.

Dnipropetrovsk region

Two people were killed and three wounded in the overnight strikes on five districts of the region, the State Emergency Service said. In the Dnipro district, two people died and two more were wounded.

In Pavlohrad, a woman was wounded when strikes hit private houses, and an outbuilding caught fire. In the Nikopol area, a warehouse and a house were damaged. In the Kamianske district, a fire broke out at an enterprise and at an infrastructure site, and private houses were damaged. Private houses were also hit in Kryvyi Rih. Rescuers put out all the fires.

Kyiv

A Russian drone fell next to apartment blocks in the Pecherskyi district, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Five people were wounded, two of them in hospital, and a car caught fire in the yard.

The drone fell next to a five-storey apartment block and damaged its facade, part of the roof and the windows. The facades of two neighbouring three-storey houses were also damaged. Emergency services are working at the scene.
