In its effort to improve air quality, Ruse will implement a green infrastructure project worth over BGN 3.5 million. The funding agreement was signed by the Minister of Environment and Water and the mayor of the city.
The project focuses on reducing fine particulate matter (PM10) by planting appropriate vegetation and limiting secondary dust dispersion. 8.53 hectares of new green spaces will be created, equipped with an irrigation system for better sustainability. Parking bollards, perforated plates, and curbs will also be installed to protect the vegetation.
Nearly 140,000 residents are expected to benefit from the improvements. The project is part of the Environment Program 2021-2027 and will be implemented with a grant of BGN 2.8 million. The implementation period is 40 months.
The investment will contribute to fulfilling national and European environmental commitments, especially regarding the 2017 EU Court ruling on exceeding permissible PM levels.
