The Road Infrastructure Agency announced that activities have begun for the installation of a solid reinforced concrete barrier and the introduction of temporary traffic management in the next 320 meters of the Danube Bridge in Ruse, planned for major repair. In the coming days, the existing asphalt pavement will be demolished, the old sidewalk block will be removed, and the road safety systems, guardrail, and lighting posts in the section will be dismantled. The section where the construction work is starting is up to the already repaired section on the same lane.
During the repair, the passage over the facility will be carried out in both directions on the lane towards Romania. The activities on the Danube Bridge are carried out daily during daylight hours and depending on the weather conditions. The work process is organized so that vehicles can pass alternately in both directions on the lane where no work is being done. The route of the Bulgarian territory of the Danube Bridge, which is part of road I-2, has a total length of 1.057 km. Since its commissioning 70 years ago - in 1954, no major repair has been carried out. The Road Infrastructure Agency calls on drivers to comply with the admissibility parameters of the passing vehicles, as well as the introduced speed limit of 20 km/h. Oversized vehicles may cause damage to the already repaired section and lead to additional, unforeseen activities. Up-to-date information on the repair work can be found in the special section "Information on the repair of the Danube Bridge" on the website of the Road Infrastructure Agency.
