Burgas has recorded a record amount of rainfall, reaching 249 liters per square meter. A partial state of emergency and a school closure have been declared due to the floods.

The hydrometeorological station recorded 110 liters of rain per square meter in Burgas.

The water level monitoring system registered an absolute record of 249 liters per square meter at three points with sensors located from the center of the city to the south. Until now, the largest measured amount was 165 liters per square meter from the moment the system was installed.

The mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, informed the public about the situation through his Facebook profile, announcing a non-school day in four Burgas schools. "There is no infrastructure that can handle such quantities that have fallen in such a short time. There is inconvenience, there is damage, but it will be removed", he wrote.

A special order from the mayor introduces a partial state of disaster on the territory of the Municipality of Burgas. The measure was taken in connection with a large-scale flood covering the area of Burgas, the neighborhoods, the Fisherman's settlement, and the village of Marinka v.o. Chernicite, according to a statement from the Municipality.

As a result of the deteriorated situation, caused by heavy rainfall, strong winds and blocked sections of road infrastructure, the Municipality of Burgas announced a non-school day in a number of schools.

The situation in the city necessitates the declaration of a partial state of disaster. The order specifically affects the "Hristo Botev" Primary School in the "Pobeda" neighborhood, the Vocational High School of Computer Modeling and Innovations, the "Naiden Gerov" Primary School in the "Meden Rudnik" complex, as well as the Specialized High School of Romance Languages "G. S. Rakovski" in the city center.
