Deputy Minister Iva Petrova presents key aspects of national energy policy, emphasizing the importance of international cooperation and diversification of energy supplies in the context of regional security.

During the 29th annual government roundtable in Athens, Greece, Deputy Minister of Energy Iva Petrova outlined Bulgaria's strategic priorities in the energy sector. Her presentation emphasized the need to build reliable international partnerships and diversify energy supplies.

A key focus of the presentation was highlighting the importance of connectivity and strategic regional initiatives. The expert noted that energy security should be based on mutual trust and collective resilience, with the Vertical Gas Corridor being a key element in this direction.

Bulgaria has an exceptionally good electricity network connectivity in Southeast Europe, which creates prerequisites for active international cooperation. The country is purposefully working on expanding interconnection links and participating in various initiatives to build green energy corridors.

Among the ambitious projects presented were initiatives for renewable energy supply from the Caspian region to European markets. Special emphasis was placed on plans to build four new pumped storage hydroelectric power plants (PSHPP), which could play a significant role as a regional energy balancer.

Petrova stressed that such initiatives go beyond typical technical infrastructure projects. They represent a platform for multinational cooperation that encourages technological exchange, sharing of best practices, and interaction between the public and private sectors.

A key challenge was identified as the need to develop an adequate regulatory framework to support the timely implementation of strategic energy initiatives. The ultimate goal is to provide effective and accessible energy solutions for the benefit of businesses and citizens.

The Deputy Minister emphasized the understanding that modern energy challenges require a comprehensive, multifaceted approach. Only through active international contacts, strategic planning, and open dialogue can sustainable results be achieved in the energy sector.

The analysis presented by Iva Petrova outlined a clear vision for the future of Bulgarian energy – focused on innovation, security, and international cooperation.
