Employees from the General Directorate of National Police and the regional directorate in Stara Zagora have assisted the competent state structures, which yesterday carried out an inspection in two sites offering rental rooms for elderly people in the village of Jagoda. The police teams have supported the work of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Ministry of Justice, the Agency for Quality of Social Services, the Executive Agency "Medical Supervision", the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Stara Zagora and the National Revenue Agency.
In the rented rooms, the inspectors found shocking conditions - the elderly people were kept tied up, drugged, with their personal documents taken away and without phones. Data has been collected that they paid around 1000 leva per month for their accommodation. 19 people were evacuated from the first site, and 56 from the second. Medical assistance was provided to those in need, some of them were placed in hospitals, and others in social facilities. Five people involved in the case were detained. A pre-trial investigation is underway at the Regional Prosecutor's Office on several texts from the Penal Code.
The data from the inspection was presented today at a briefing at the building of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Stara Zagora, with the participation of the Minister of Justice Georgi Georgiev, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Policy Ivan Krastev, and the Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Stara Zagora, Senior Commissioner Krasimir Hristov.
