Prosecutorial control over serious incident in Sunny Beach is tightened
Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has taken decisive action by requesting the entire pre-trial proceeding for the ATV road accident from the Burgas Prosecutor's Office. This move is undertaken in view of the powers of the Prosecutor General to assign the investigation to investigators from the National Investigation Service (NIS). The information was officially confirmed by the state prosecution.
The decision to transfer the case to a higher level of investigation is motivated by its legal complexity. According to the prosecution, the facts and circumstances that must be established require the work to be performed by a highly qualified and experienced investigator. A thorough analysis of a significant amount of evidence is forthcoming, as well as the conducting of various expert examinations, which will aim to clarify the objective truth and determine the driver's responsibility.
The case, which shocked the public, concerns a serious road accident in which the accused N.B. caused medium bodily injuries to five pedestrians. The incident, in which a four-wheeled motor vehicle struck a group of people, caused a wave of alarm among tourists and locals in the resort.
Meanwhile, the legal procedures surrounding the detention of the accused have also seen developments. On August 18, the Burgas District Prosecutor's Office filed a protest against the ruling of the Nesebar District Court, which had ordered the non-custodial measure of "house arrest" for N.B. The prosecution insists on a stricter measure and demands that "house arrest" be replaced with "detention in custody". The Burgas District Court is set to review the protest on Friday, August 22.

One of the victims in the incident remains in serious condition. The woman is hospitalized at the University Hospital for Active Treatment (UHAT) – Burgas, where she is in the "Resuscitation" department. Her vitals remain critical, and her condition is described as a coma. All five victims received injuries of varying severity after being struck by an ATV driven by an 18-year-old in Sunny Beach.
