Taxi Meter Adjustment: Deadline and Control

Today is the deadline for the recalibration of taxi meters so that they print receipts in both Bulgarian leva and euros. This change is part of the efforts to smoothly introduce the single European currency in the country.

In accordance with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro, in addition to recalibrating the meters, taxi drivers must replace the stickers indicating the prices of transport with those that show prices in both currencies. The stickers are placed on the dashboard and the car window to be easily visible to customers.

In an interview with Bulgarian National Radio, the chairman of the National Taxi Syndicate, Krasimir Tsvetkov, warned about the approaching deadline and its consequences. "Every car that goes out without a sticker with dual labeling and without a cash receipt in both currencies is in violation. I expect increased control," said Tsvetkov.

The chairman of the syndicate emphasized the seriousness of the situation, pointing out specific consequences for violators. "When an act is drawn up and a sanction is imposed for the same type of violation, and with three such violations within one year, this gives grounds for the revocation of the transport permit, i.e. license," he warned.

The control for compliance with the new requirements will be carried out by several key institutions. Executive Agency "Automobile Administration", the National Revenue Agency, the State Agency for Metrological and Technical Supervision, and the Consumer Protection Commission will be involved in the inspections of taxi vehicles. The planned measures aim to ensure transparency and correctness in pricing and to protect consumer rights. The atmosphere around is tense, given the upcoming inspections and potential sanctions.
