Starting from June 16, 2025, vehicles over 3.5 tons traveling from Montana to Sofia will be able to pass through the Petrohan pass (road II-81). However, trucks will not be allowed to travel through the pass on weekends - Saturday and Sunday, as well as on weekdays from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., as well as on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Mondays.
These restrictions have been introduced to facilitate the travel of residents in the region when they leave in the morning and return home in the afternoon. The road through the Petrohan pass is one of the possible alternatives for trucks traveling from Montana to Sofia, as the Mezdra - Botevgrad road is being modernized.
For light vehicles up to 3.5 tons, the detour route passes through road III-1004 Pavolche - Chelopek - road III-1602 Chelopek - Lyutibroд - road II-16 Lyutibroд - Eliseyna - Svoge - the Sofia ring road and back. For vehicles over 3.5 tons, the main detour routes are along road II-13 Krapchene - Krivodol - Borovan - Byala Slatina - Knezha - Dolni Dabnik - road I-3 Dolni Dabnik - Cherven Bryag - Lukovit - Zlatna Panega - Hemus Motorway and back, as well as along road II-15 Vratsa - Borovan - II-13 Borovan - Byala Slatina - Knezha - Dolni Dabnik - road I-3 Dolni Dabnik - Cherven Bryag - Lukovit - Zlatna Panega - Hemus Motorway and back.
The possible detour routes for vehicles over 3.5 tons are: only in the direction of Montana - via Hemus Motorway - road I-3 Yablanitsa - Zlatna Panega - road III-3082 Zlatna Panega - Roman - road III-103 Roman - Mezdra - Moravitsa - road I-1 Moravitsa - Vratsa - Montana; only in the direction of Sofia - via road II-81 through the Petrohan pass until July 11, 2025.
The deadline for the order for temporary traffic organization and safety on the section of road II-81 through the Petrohan pass is until July 11, 2025.
