New government measures totaling over 300 million euros will cover more than 550,000 low-income Bulgarian citizens. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Investment and Industry Alexander Pulev during a briefing at the Council of Ministers, where he also announced the abolition of the excise duty on propane-butane.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, these steps are aimed at curbing price pressure and are divided into two groups: one for citizens and one for industry. "The removal of the excise duty on propane-butane will lead to a very significant reduction in pump prices for all citizens using gas-powered vehicles," Pulev stated. He explained that this approach puts an end to "helicopter money." Unlike the actions of transitional governments, which made no distinction regarding people's financial status, the focus is now on the most vulnerable layers of society.

The change is expected to reduce prices not only for gas car drivers but also for carriers, as a large part of the industry relies on this fuel. Legislative changes will be undertaken "as a matter of utmost urgency" to implement it. The measure will remain active until the end of the year and will have an impact on the central budget of approximately 15 million euros for the period.

Parallel to the abolition of the excise duty, support will also be provided through subsidies for key sectors, aimed at:

  • public transport;
  • student transport;
  • medical transport.

Pulev emphasized that small and remote settlements are a priority, and the specific goal of the public transport subsidies is to prevent ticket price increases. Despite these steps, no new measures regarding diesel and gasoline excise duties are planned at this time.

The decision to abolish the excise duty will affect fuel and transport costs for the residents of Burgas and the region.

The government will continue to monitor fuel price dynamics. Should price pressure intensify, additional actions may be taken in the future. The Deputy Prime Minister concluded with a statement that the state stands firmly by households and businesses, and that all measures taken follow the general goal: direct support for the people.
