Significant drop in fires in 2026
According to data from Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov, Director of the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection (DG FSCP), the number of fires in the country shows a slight downward trend. The burnt area amounts to about 5,000 decares, which is significantly less compared to the 130,000 decares for the same period last year.
Prevention remains critical
Every single ignition can escalate into a serious fire, emphasized Dzhartov.
Despite the statistics, the danger remains high due to dry vegetation and strong winds. The fire department urges citizens not to use open flames and to act responsibly, as human activity is a major factor in the incidents.
Technologies and AI assisting firefighters
- Drones and cameras: Increased monitoring through static and dynamic cameras, especially in Southwestern Bulgaria.
- Cooperation with INSAIT: Integration of artificial intelligence for more effective management of disasters and fires.
- Modernization: Deliveries of 285 new fire engines and 3,000 sets of protective clothing are expected by the end of the year.

18.08.2026, 10:20Абе, да видим сега... "Пожари намаляват с 30% до 2026". Звучи добре, де, ама не бързам да се радвам. Все пак помним миналото лято колко беше зле и какви адски усилия трябваше да полагат пожарникарите
