The U.S. military leadership took an unprecedented step by freezing deliveries of key defense systems to Ukrainian armed forces. The information was confirmed by leading media outlets – Politico and NBC News, which cite anonymous sources from the Pentagon.
The scope of suspended deliveries includes critically important defense platforms: Patriot air defense systems, GMLRS precision rocket systems, 155 mm artillery ammunition, Hellfire anti-tank missiles, and Stinger portable air defense systems.
The decision is the result of an internal strategic analysis, initiated in June by senior military experts. Defense Secretary Pete Gagsett personally ordered the temporary suspension of expeditions pending an additional assessment of national defense needs.
The potential consequences of this suspension are sparking serious discussions in congressional circles. Deputies traditionally supporting the Ukrainian cause are expressing concern about the possible weakening of the country's air defense.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly emphasized that the decision is driven by the need to prioritize American national interests. "Our power remains undisputed," she was categorical.
