National Program for Vaccinoprophylaxis against Rotavirus Gastroenteritis Approved (2026-2030)

The National Program for Rotavirus Gastroenteritis Vaccination (2026-2030) was approved today by a decision of the Council of Ministers. It is a continuation of the activities that have been implemented so far within the scope of two consecutive program periods and was developed in implementation of the European Immunization Program by 2030.

The program also responds to the national health priorities set out in the National Health Strategy 2030.

The aim is to reduce the incidence of rotavirus gastroenteritis, including severe forms requiring hospitalization, through vaccination with recommended immunization in infants from 6 weeks of age, guaranteeing the right of parents to accessible prevention for their children without imposing obligations.

A phased increase in the immunization coverage among infants eligible for immunization is planned from 52% for 2026 to 65% for 2030, as well as the conduct of campaigns to raise public awareness, targeting parents/guardians of individuals from the target immunization group regarding the significance and severity of rotavirus gastroenteritis and the possibilities of vaccination.

The National Program will provide additional support to the state policy being implemented to reach and maintain a high immunization coverage with recommended immunizations.

A few days ago, the draft National Program for the Prevention of Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases 2026-2030 was published for public discussion, and over BGN 17 million is needed for the implementation of the program.
