Information meetings were held with the residents of the "Svoboda" neighborhood in Pomorie from June 2 to 9, 2025, where the second stage of the project will be implemented. The goal is to introduce a comprehensive and innovative approach to waste management, including a new system for paying the household waste service based on the amount of waste disposed.
During the first stage of the project, which started in October 2024, households were already separating recyclable waste - paper, plastic, and metal - into special bags, which were collected from the entrance. Analyses show that before the project, the mixed household waste subject to landfill fees was 80%, and after the introduction of separate collection, it has decreased to just over 20%.
The second stage envisages that households will dispose of the recoverable waste - paper, plastic, metal, glass, and biodegradable - in new "shelter" type containers with video surveillance, controlled access, and chip cards. The waste that is not subject to recycling will be collected in special gray bags with an RFID tag, which will be registered by trucks equipped with readers. This will determine the service fee, as the less the amount of this waste, the less will be paid.
For biodegradable/food waste, the distributed household bins will continue to be used. A mobile application is also being developed, through which households will be able to monitor the collection schedule, the amount of waste disposed, and other data.
