The municipality of Burgas is taking control of the Mental Health Center after the transfer of ownership from the state.

At today's meeting of the Burgas Municipal Council, Mayor Dimitar Nikolov announced that the state has transferred the ownership of the "Prof. Dr. Ivan Temkov" Mental Health Center to the Municipality of Burgas. This allows the local administration to invest in improving the conditions for treatment and work in the center, as well as to apply for funding under operational programs.

The Mental Health Center in Burgas is one of the structures included in the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan, related to the modernization of psychiatric care in Bulgaria. At the moment, the Burgas Mental Health Center is the only facility in the region that provides 24-hour emergency psychiatric assistance, serving 13 municipalities with nearly 385,000 residents.

The Municipality of Burgas has long wanted to acquire the ownership of the Mental Health Center in order to ensure the necessary investments to improve the conditions. Concrete steps in this direction were taken a few months ago, and now this goal has been achieved.

Psychiatric services in the Burgas region have been provided since 1952, when the Psychoneurological Dispensary was established. In 2000, it was transformed into a Mental Health Center, but throughout its 73-year history, it has never interrupted its activities.
