In 108 post offices of "Bulgarian Posts" EAD in the Burgas region, citizens will have the opportunity to exchange Bulgarian leva for euros after January 1, 2026. The list of these settlements has already been published on the official website of the state-owned company, which represents a key step in the process of introducing the single European currency.
This measure is particularly important for the residents of these areas, providing access to currency exchange, especially in settlements where there are no bank branches or branches of credit institutions. Up to 1000 leva can be exchanged without a prior request, which is a convenience for many citizens. However, for amounts between 1000 and 10,000 leva per day, a prior request will be required, submitted between three and five working days before the exchange.
Deepening the preparation, as early as August, "Bulgarian Posts" announced that it is training over 3000 employees throughout the country to work with euros in post offices. The training of employees underscores the company's commitment to ensure a smooth transition to the new currency. According to the National Plan for the introduction of the euro and the relevant law, the post offices will exchange leva for euros in a total of 2230 offices in Bulgaria. During the first six months of the introduction of the euro, this service will be free for citizens, which further facilitates the process of switching to the new currency.
As already reported by BTA, currency exchange will not be anonymous, regardless of the amount. Each client will have to identify themselves with an identity document. "Bulgarian Posts" EAD has already purchased devices for scanning documents, which indicates their readiness to implement the necessary security measures.

At the same time, in July this year, the government announced that the Ministry of Interior will strengthen security measures during the exchange in post offices, especially in small settlements. Visible police presence is planned, and teams of the economic police have also been formed to monitor potential fraud. Careful monitoring and strict security measures are essential to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent financial crimes during the period of currency change.
