New missile strike on Kyiv and accusations of an attack on the Zaporizhzhia NPP

Russia carried out another missile strike against the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, this time using ballistic missiles. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the attack has resulted in casualties and destruction in several districts of the city.

"Among the injured is a 16-year-old boy," wrote Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram, adding that at least two people were killed in the missile strikes.

According to him, Russian drones struck two districts of the Ukrainian capital. Fires broke out and material damage was caused in a warehouse in the western part of Kyiv and in an uninhabited building in an eastern district. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched at least eight missiles at Kyiv and its surroundings in two waves.

Parallel to this, Moscow leveled accusations against Ukraine in connection with the occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine. Russia claims that the plant's chief engineer was killed in a drone attack.

According to the head of the Russian state corporation Rosatom, Alexei Likhachev, a Ukrainian drone struck an official vehicle of the nuclear plant in the zone between the territory of the NPP and the city of Enerhodar. He described it as a "targeted attack" against plant employees.

In the strike, according to Likhachev's information, both the chief engineer of the Zaporizhzhia NPP and the car's driver were killed. He called on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to provide a "clear reaction" to what happened and stated that the Russian leadership had already been informed of the incident.

Later, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi reacted on the social network X, condemning the attack. He described the incident as an "unacceptable" act and warned that such attacks pose a serious threat to nuclear safety.

The Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant has been under Russian control since March 2022, when Russian forces seized it. For security reasons and due to increased risk, the plant's six reactors have been shut down and are not operational.
