Russian drones hit the Kyiv and Kharkiv regions overnight into Tuesday, 20 October. Three people died and six civilians were wounded in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region. Three more people died in Chabany, near Kyiv, and four were wounded. In Izium, five people were wounded.
Russia launched 165 attack drones, including Shaheds (105 of them jet-powered), S8000 Banderol/Dan-T, Gerbera and Parodiya decoy drones. Russia has been fighting a full-scale war against Ukraine since February 2022.
Drones downed and targets hit
By 8am, air defences had shot down or jammed 115 drones, 73 of them jet-powered. Another 20 attack drones were still in the air, and air defence crews kept working. The enemy hit targets at 30 locations, and debris from downed drones fell at 13 more.
Aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems and mobile fire groups all helped repel the attack.
Obukhiv district, Kyiv region
A strike overnight hit a production and warehouse building in one of the district's communities and started a fire. State Emergency Service rescuers say three people died and six civilians were wounded.
The fire is out, and crews are clearing the rubble. Psychologists are also at the scene.
Chabany and Kyiv
A drone came down by the Kyiv–Odesa road in the village of Chabany, not far from a shopping centre, and cars caught fire. The Kyiv city prosecutor's office initially reported three dead and four wounded.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the blast was near a petrol station in Kyiv's Holosiiv district, on the border with Kyiv region. Two of the wounded were taken to hospital, and the others are getting help at the scene. A pre-trial investigation into a war crime has begun.
Izium, Kharkiv region
Attack drones targeted residential areas and civilian infrastructure in the city. Five Izium residents were hurt.

The strikes started four fires. Houses, outbuildings and one administrative building burned in private yards, and homes, other buildings and cars were damaged. Rescuers fought the fires despite the threat of more shelling.
