MFA Condemns Vandalism in Varna and Burgas

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) strongly condemned the acts of vandalism directed against places sacred to society in two Bulgarian cities. In a special statement published late last night, the ministry expressed categorical disapproval of the attacks against the synagogue in the city of Varna and against the Monument of Gratitude in the city of Burgas. The monument in Burgas is a symbol of gratitude for the saving of Bulgarian Jews during the Second World War - one of the brightest pages in Bulgarian history.

The MFA's announcement emphasizes that such actions are "categorically unacceptable". They cast a shadow over "Bulgaria's historical achievements, of which the Bulgarian people are justifiably proud". The MFA clearly notes that such manifestations do not correspond to the character of Bulgarian society and "obviously aim to artificially introduce tension and division among Bulgarian citizens". Precisely for this reason, they cannot go unanswered.

The atmosphere in the city, where the monument was located, was tense. A group of people had gathered near the monument, discussing what had happened. Heated discussions were taking place, feelings were mixed, but indignation at what had happened prevailed.

In conclusion, the MFA calls on the competent authorities to immediately take all necessary measures. The aim is to identify the perpetrators of the acts of vandalism and to bring them to justice. Actions against religious sites and monuments, testifying to historical events, require a quick and decisive reaction to ensure that such acts will not go unpunished.
