The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW) is a leading institution that coordinates and manages strategic processes in Bulgaria's regional development. Led by Minister Ivan Ivanov, the agency includes a structured apparatus with three deputy ministers: Veselina Terziyska, Yura Vitanova, and Dora Yankova.
The organizational structure of the ministry covers multiple expert and advisory councils, including the Public Council, Regional Policy Council, and National Expert Council for Coordinating the Implementation of Various Strategic Plans.
Among the main areas of activity are managing regional programs, territorial cooperation initiatives, and infrastructure projects. The ministry administers key programs such as the "Regions Development" program for the 2021-2027 period and the Operational Program "Regions in Growth".
International cooperation is realized through multiple cross-border programs, including INTERREG initiatives with countries such as Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey, Greece, and Romania. These programs aim to support regional development and economic integration.
An important focus of the MRDPW is energy efficiency. The ministry implements the National Program for Energy Efficiency of Multi-Family Residential Buildings, which supports housing stock renovation and reduces energy consumption.
Administrative-territorial structure is another essential area of competence. MRDPW maintains the National Register of Settlements and the Unified Classifier of Administrative-Territorial Units, providing methodological and regulatory framework.
The institution is actively working on digital transformation in the construction sector, introducing modern information systems and models for design and construction.
Through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), the ministry implements significant investment projects in areas such as energy renovation, green mobility, and wastewater treatment plant construction.
Transparency and accountability are among the priorities, with MRDPW maintaining open registries, publishing contracts, and providing mechanisms for civic control.
The ministry continues to be a key factor in Bulgaria's regional development, adapting to contemporary challenges and European standards.
