The government is taking unprecedented actions to ensure road safety. The Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov announced a large-scale specialized police operation (SPO) that will cover the entire territory of the country.
During a working meeting with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, the details of intensive driving control were coordinated. The main focus is preventing violations in the emergency lanes of highways that endanger the life and health of traffic participants.
Police teams received categorical instructions to act as uncompromisingly as possible towards drivers who violate established rules. The operation will be especially active during weekends - from Friday to Sunday, when traffic is most intense.
Legislation provides serious sanctions for violators. According to Article 178zh of the Road Traffic Act (RTA), the first violation is punishable by a fine of 1000 leva and suspension of driver's license for three months. Upon repeated violation, sanctions are tripled - 4000 leva fine and six-month deprivation of driving rights.
Article 58 of the RTA explicitly prohibits movement in the emergency lane, except in cases of technical malfunctions or urgent health conditions. "Our goal is complete intolerance towards such risky behaviors," emphasized Minister Mitov.
The operation aims not only to punish but also to prevent, sending a clear message to all drivers to strictly follow traffic rules.
