The Road Infrastructure Agency announced progress on a large-scale plan to secure critical road sections, with 20 out of a total of 36 high-risk road segments with a high concentration of traffic accidents already improved.

The National Road Safety Strategy has entered a decisive phase, with experts from the Road Infrastructure Agency performing targeted interventions on key routes in the country. The program implementation includes large-scale repair activities, which cover replacement of road signs, application of modern markings, and restoration of compromised infrastructure elements.

In the Veliko Tarnovo region, improvements were finalized on a 100-meter section of first-class road I-5 at the entrance of Veliko Tarnovo. The work included comprehensive rehabilitation, with road signs replaced, noise markings applied, and restraint systems restored. Simultaneously, activities are being carried out on a 100-meter section of road I-3 between Gorna Studena and Maslarevo.

Haskovo region reported completion of safety activities on a 700-meter section of road II-76 between Knyazhevo and Topolovgrad. Of the total length, the critical zone with high incident concentration is a 100-meter section that was fundamentally reconstructed with new asphalt pavement, modern markings, road signs, and protective guardrails.

In Vratsa, improvements were made to a 100-meter section of third-class road III-101 between Vratsa and Krivodol. Experts replaced road signs and restored markings, which contributes to increased road safety in the region.

In the Stara Zagora region, a large-scale rehabilitation is being carried out on a 5-kilometer section of first-class road I-5 between Stara Zagora and Zmeyovo. Within this section, three critical 100-meter zones have been identified and are included in the national safety plan.

The planned activities are part of the extensive Work Program for implementing traffic safety measures, adopted by Council of Ministers Decision #296 from May 9, 2025. The deadline for full implementation of the planned activities is set for the end of 2026.

On June 29, the country will mark National Road Safety Day. The State Agency "Road Traffic Safety" has launched an information campaign under the motto "Safety is not a coincidence. Work with heart and mind".

The main message to drivers is to operate their vehicles with increased attention, appropriate speed, and strict adherence to traffic rules. Experts emphasize that responsible driving is a key factor in preserving the life and health of traffic participants.
