Burgas Airport starts the largest runway rehabilitation in its history

With an official groundbreaking ceremony on November 10, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD launched the historic project for the complete rehabilitation of the runway at Burgas Airport – a key investment worth over 50 million euros.

Representatives of the state and local authorities, foreign partners, as well as the management of the concessionaire attended the event.
The project marks 19 years since the beginning of the concession for the Burgas and Varna airport and is the largest infrastructure investment in the history of Burgas Airport.
The reconstruction will cover 3200 meters of runway and adjacent areas, including a complete renewal of the surface with over 100,000 tons of asphalt, construction of a new lighting and drainage system and modernization of all safety zones – according to the most modern global standards.

The temporary closure of Burgas Airport will last 6 months – in the winter of 2025–2026 – as the goal is for the airport to resume work on the eve of the summer season, and the repair to allow the handling of a record number of flights in the coming decades.

The construction and repair works are carried out mainly by the Bulgarian company "Stimeks" EOOD, in partnership with "Avtomagistrali – Cherno more" and the Romanian technology specialist "UTI Construction and Facility Management SA".
During the ceremony, the importance of the investment for the safety and long-term development of Burgas as a tourist and economic center was emphasized.
