Burgas Municipality and the "Burgas – 2032" Foundation announced the beginning of an international ideas competition, the aim of which is to transform the emblematic urban space in the city center, known as the Hole. The ambitious project envisages the creation of a modern, multifunctional complex, which will include a park, cultural and administrative zones. This became clear from a statement by the Municipality's press center, which reflects the strategic importance of the initiative.
This project is emerging as a key stage in the city's preparation for its candidacy for the prestigious title of "European Capital of Culture" in 2032. The local administration expresses confidence that the implementation of the project will contribute to stimulating the social, cultural and overall urban transformation of Burgas.
Before concrete actions are taken, Burgas Municipality conducted a survey of local residents to familiarize themselves with their views on the future purpose of the site. The results of the survey clearly showed the preferences of the people of Burgas, who want a symbiosis between green spaces and areas for public functions, recreation and cultural events.
The competition task is formulated in the form of a competition for "Park Zone 3". This approach is inspired by the concept of a harmonious combination of park space, cultural events and administrative services. The municipal press center emphasizes that the project reflects the three main functions of a living urban space – place, people and events.
The strategic location of the site in the heart of Burgas, in close proximity to key pedestrian and public areas such as "Aleksandrovska" Street, "Troykata" Square and the Municipality building, further increases the significance of the project.
The competition opens doors for Bulgarian and foreign architects and artists, with the aim of developing original, innovative and sustainable ideas for creating a dynamic and inclusive space.
The implementation of the projects will contribute to the more active perception and development of the central part of the city, establishing Burgas as a dynamic, lively and modern city. The Municipality emphasizes the importance of the project for the future development of the city.
