Global Index Reveals Environmental Leaders
The information that ranks countries by their cleanliness comes from the World Population Review, based on data from the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) for 2024. This index is the result of the collaborative work of scientists from the prestigious Yale University and Columbia University and represents an in-depth assessment of the environmental responsibility of 180 countries worldwide.
The index"s methodology is extremely comprehensive. It is based on 58 indicators, grouped into 11 categories, that measure progress in three main areas: ecosystem vitality, environmental health, and climate change mitigation. The assessed indicators include air quality, water and sanitation systems cleanliness, biodiversity conservation, protection of animal and plant species, and the implementation of sustainable practices. The final score determines the ranking of countries – from the cleanest and most responsible to those that need serious improvements in their environmental policy.
Top 10 – Leaders in a Sustainable Future
Although the specific first five countries in the ranking are not mentioned, it is clear that the remaining five places in the top 10 are occupied by European countries that have established themselves as a benchmark for environmental responsibility. These are Sweden, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, and Denmark.
