An Indian business delegation arrived in Bulgaria this week to participate in a Bulgarian-Indian business forum organized by the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Embassy of India in Sofia, and the Federation of Indian Export Organizations. The goal is to promote the development of bilateral trade and economic relations between the two countries.

The Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, together with the Embassy of India in Sofia and the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), organized a Bulgarian-Indian business forum with bilateral meetings. Dr. Vasil Todorov, Deputy Chairman of the BCCI, welcomed the businessmen from the Asian side in the presence of Doncho Barbalov, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry, H.E. Arun Kumar Sahu, Ambassador of India to Sofia, Manish Sharma, Chairman of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations, and Dr. Petar Velev, Chairman of the Indo-Bulgarian Business Chamber.

Todorov pointed out that trade exchange between Bulgaria and India has been declining over the past two years and there is a need for further encouragement of cooperation between Bulgarian and Indian companies. BCCI has had excellent and long-term relations with partners from India since 1976 and will continue to organize Indian goods fairs in Bulgaria.

Deputy Minister Doncho Barbalov stated that the bilateral trade turnover between Bulgaria and India was $424 million in 2024, which shows significant potential for growth. He focused on sectors such as high technology, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture as areas with great potential for future expansion of bilateral cooperation.

Barbalov stressed the importance of the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and India, as a key tool for removing trade barriers, promoting investments, and improving access to domestic markets.

The forum was attended by over 40 companies from Bulgaria and India, representing sectors such as automotive, machinery, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, chemicals, food industry, textiles, medical supplies, and agricultural products.

Presentations were made on the investment environment in Bulgaria by the Bulgarian Investment Agency and the National Company Industrial Zones. Bulgarian companies were also familiarized with the conditions for the protection of intellectual property in India.
