On June 4, 2025, the European Commission approved significant changes to the 2021-2027 Environment Program. The changes are the result of an interim review of the program's implementation and will contribute to more effective achievement of its environmental goals.
In the water sector, in addition to financing infrastructure measures in agglomerations over 10,000 p.e., investments in smaller agglomerations between 5,000 and 10,000 p.e. will also be supported to achieve compliance with the Urban Waste Water Directive.
In the "Waste" sector, additional measures related to the optimization of municipal household waste management are introduced. From 2026, the waste collection fee will be determined based on the actual amount of waste generated, in order to stimulate separate collection and reduce mixed waste.
In the "Biodiversity" sector, measures for developing targets for Natura 2000 protected areas, support for ecosystem services, and assessment of green infrastructure are included. The purchase of vehicles for the activities of national park directorates, as well as educational and conservation projects in municipal zoos, will also be financed.
Changes in the "Risk and Climate Change" priority expand the possibilities for financing strategic, program, and planning documents. In the "Air" priority, changes have been made related to the transposition of a new European directive on air quality.
