The Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov emphasized the key role of Bulgaria in ensuring energy connectivity in the region during the Burgas 2025 Connectivity Forum. The event brought together diplomats, ministers, and leading experts in energy, transport, economy, and security from across Europe.
Stankov announced that another ship with pipes for the Vertical Gas Corridor is expected to arrive at the port of Burgas in the coming weeks. The strategic project, which is entering a crucial stage of implementation on Bulgarian territory, is supported by the governments of Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
"Bulgaria has become an extremely important pillar of energy stability in the region, including in terms of infrastructure. We are the first country to take action to build the Vertical Gas Corridor, strengthening the possibilities for real diversification," the minister stressed.
Stankov also highlighted the active work at an accelerated pace on the implementation of key gas and electricity projects, ensuring secure energy at affordable and sustainable prices for both Bulgarian and European citizens.
Furthermore, the minister focused on the future of green energy corridors - initiatives that will transport cheap, green, and zero-emission energy from the Caspian region to the heart of Europe. "Bulgaria will play an important role in the redirection of energy from green sources, which will pass through Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, the Black Sea to Bulgaria, and through our good connectivity - to other parts of the continent," he stressed.
According to Stankov, our country is recognized in Europe as one of the most reliable partners in the energy sector. This allows him to emphasize the key role of Bulgaria in ensuring energy connectivity and diversification in the region.
