Ukrainian troops used drones to fly about 4,000 tonnes of food across the Dnipro river into temporarily occupied Oleshky in the Kherson region, says Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the regional military administration. It's one of the biggest such operations so far, with supplies reaching 100 points across the town.

The 30th marine corps, the "Hrom" tactical group, the 34th "Borysfen" marine brigade, the "Bolharychi" unit of the 11th National Guard brigade, the 34th National Guard regiment and the 79th border unit took part. Partners supplied the food.

Prokudin says occupying forces are trying to stop this aid too. Russian troops shoot down the drones carrying supplies, and seize some of the food meant for children and the elderly to resell it. Occupying forces have also detained Oleshky residents over the aid packages they received, thrown them in basements and beaten them badly.

Blocking aid on purpose and starving civilians are war crimes with no statute of limitations, Prokudin says. "I thank our defenders for this risky work, and our partners for the food they gave," he added.

Oleshky and nearby villages have no food, water or medicine. People rely on volunteer groups sending supplies by drone, but the deliveries aren't enough.

Ukraine has offered several ways to get people out, including a land corridor through Russian-held territory, and was ready to halt fighting for the evacuation. Russia refused to agree to the terms.

Prokudin said deliveries and aid for Oleshky's residents will continue.
