On June 30, 2025, in the capital Baku, large-scale interdepartmental political consultations were held between the foreign policy departments of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. The official Bulgarian delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletzova, while the Azerbaijani delegation was represented by Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev.
During the visit, Ms. Shekerletzova held a series of key meetings with leading Azerbaijani statesmen. Among them were the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov and the Presidential Advisor on Foreign Policy Issues Hikmet Hajiyev, which highlighted the high level of diplomatic interaction.
During the negotiations, bilateral relations in various strategic directions were thoroughly analyzed. The focus was placed on trade and economic relations, sectors of energy, transport, logistics, tourism, culture, and education. Experts identified specific areas for deepening multilateral cooperation.
Diplomatic representatives also discussed current international challenges, including regional and global security. Special attention was paid to the ongoing Russian military aggression in Ukraine, the increasing tension between Israel and Iran, and their geopolitical dimensions.

As an expression of mutual trust, the Bulgarian side expressed gratitude for the support in evacuating its embassy from Tehran and the opportunity for it to continue functioning from the territory of Azerbaijan. The consultations consolidated the status of bilateral relations as a strategic partnership.
