Mayor Dimitar Nikolov offered heartfelt congratulations to the citizens of Burgas on the occasion of Independence Day, one of the most important dates in modern Bulgarian history.
In his official address, published today, the mayor emphasized the significance of this day: "Dear fellow citizens, Today we celebrate one of the brightest and most significant holidays in our history – the Independence Day of Bulgaria."
Nikolov recalled the historical context of September 22, 1908, in Tarnovo, when the Bulgarian people categorically declared their right to freedom and equal standing on the international scene. "On September 22, 1908, in Tarnovo, the Bulgarian people upheld their right to be free and equal among other nations. This is a day of pride, a day of dignity, and of the strength of the Bulgarian spirit." – emphasized the mayor, highlighting the importance of patriotism and national pride.
In his message, Dimitar Nikolov focused on the fragility of independence, reminding the people of Burgas that it is not a given, but a result of fierce struggle, unity, and self-sacrifice. "Let us remember that independence is not a given – it is the fruit of will, unity, and sacrifice."
He called for a responsible attitude towards this historical legacy, emphasizing our duty to pass it on to future generations, building a just, modern, and dignified society.
The mayor expressed confidence in the power of collective efforts for the development of Burgas and Bulgaria as a whole, describing it as a home providing a future for the young and security and respect for the elderly. "I believe that with joint efforts we can continue to build our city and our country as a home where young people find a future, and the elderly – security and respect."
