Burgas Zoo welcomed a pair of rare red-bellied tamarins – the first in Bulgaria! The miniature monkeys are an endangered species, and their presence is part of a conservation program aimed at raising awareness of biodiversity.

Burgas Zoo welcomed new, charming inhabitants – a pair of red-bellied tamarins, also known as white-lipped tamarins.

This is the first appearance of this type of monkey in Bulgaria, making them a true attraction for visitors.

The miniature creatures, weighing only about half a kilogram, captivate with their bright red belly, snow-white lips, and remarkable agility.

Observing them is a real pleasure – they move with incredible speed, performing impressive jumps, and their communication with each other is a kind of "conversation" of sounds and gestures.

In the wild, in the tropical forests of the Amazon – mainly in Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia, these unique animals are an endangered species, mainly due to the destruction of their natural habitats.

The Arrival of the Tamarins – Part of Conservation Activity

The arrival of the red-bellied tamarins at Burgas Zoo is part of the institution"s active conservation work, including participation in numerous national and international breeding programs for rare and endangered species.

The goal is not only to help conserve red-bellied tamarins but also to raise public awareness of the importance of biodiversity.

The zoo continues to expand its educational initiatives aimed at visitors of all ages, in order to cultivate respect and responsibility towards nature.

There is a clear interest in the new inhabitants, and the atmosphere in the zoo is full of excitement.

Many visitors stop by the tamarins" aviary, charmed by their games and agile movements.

We hope that these wonderful animals will contribute to a more fulfilling visitor experience and will spark interest in the conservation of nature and biodiversity.

Burgas Zoo, with its initiatives, demonstrates an important role in the conservation of endangered species and is an example of the successful integration of educational and conservation practices.
