ChatGPT Atlas – OpenAI's new browser that puts artificial intelligence at the center of the internet

OpenAI officially introduced the new web browser with built-in ChatGPT – ChatGPT Atlas . The premiere took place on October 21, 2025, and the product is positioned as a serious competitor to Chrome, Firefox and Comet AI. Atlas is based on Chromium and integrates an AI agent into the very core of the browser – not as an extension, but as a permanent panel service ("side pane"). This allows direct communication with artificial intelligence on every page and provides new opportunities when working on the Internet.

Atlas takes the chatbot to a new level – it "sees" the content of the page and can not only answer questions, but also analyze text, formulate summaries, generate templates for documents, automatically fill out forms and even reserve services or products in real time ("agent mode"). It can perform tasks such as buying tickets, filling out surveys and comparing offers. The AI agent initially works for ChatGPT Plus/Pro/Business subscribers, but OpenAI announced that the feature will be available to everyone.

Atlas has memory for previous searches, intelligently recommends actions according to the context of the work, offers autocompletion and personalized memorization of user tasks. By selecting text on a page, the user receives suggestions for actions according to the context: translation, summary, tone change, writing a letter or data analysis. Each new session can be adapted through the "memory" of the chatbot.

The updated "quick access" page includes task recommendations, a list of recent materials and AI prompts. Built-in privacy features allow the user to control the extent to which AI has access – only in separate tabs or globally in the browser.

Atlas works on macOS (beta), and the expected versions for Windows, iOS and Android will be released by the end of 2025. The interface is as close as possible to Chrome, facilitating the transition to the new platform. Google has already integrated Gemini, and Perplexity has released Comet AI with an AI chat, but Atlas is the first browser with an AI agent in the very core – the main working environment goes beyond the standard browsing frameworks.

The reviews are contradictory – a high level of innovation, but some users complain of delays when working on a Mac, high energy consumption and beta bugs. However, ChatGPT Atlas is the first large-scale artificial intelligence-based browser that puts generative AI at the center of working with the network: "AI gives us the opportunity to rethink the browser anew," said OpenAI.
