Burgas welcomed its candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2032 with a grand folklore festival

On June 7, the central square "Trojkata" in Burgas turned into a stage for a large-scale folklore performance, which marked the city's candidacy for the European Capital of Culture 2032. The event was the culmination of the tenth jubilee edition of the National Folklore Festival "Horo Kraj Lazurnyja Brez - Burgas 2025".

In this year's edition, 900 dancers from 29 folklore clubs from all over the country participated. They formed an impressive choreographic composition in the shape of a sun with 12 rays - a symbol of the Bulgarian tradition, cultural vitality, and unity. In the center of the performance was written the inscription "Burgas - Candidate for European Capital of Culture 2032", and from it 12 rays of 20 dancers each spread out - a visual message of cultural energy emanating from the heart of Burgas and reaching all corners of Bulgaria.

The choreographic form was complemented by four concentric circles and a colorful folklore parade, which started from the Burgas Municipality building and ended at the "Trojkata" square. The final accent was the release of doves into the sky - a symbol of peace, hope, and spirituality.

The square was filled with the sounds of authentic Bulgarian folk music, colorful costumes, and smiles. The atmosphere combined the past and the future, the tradition and the modern cultural identity of the seaside city. For the attendees - residents and guests of Burgas - the experience became an unforgettable emotional celebration.

The organizers of the festival are the Military Club - Burgas and the Folklore Club "Lazur", with the assistance of the Municipality of Burgas through the Culture Fund. Over the past decade, "Horo Kraj Lazurnyja Brez" has established itself as one of the largest and most significant folklore forums in the country. The event is a bridge between generations, combining the energy of the Bulgarian roots with the modern spirit of the city and emphasizing the role of culture as a driver for development and community experience.
